Daniel Peters is 8 years old and lives in Lincoln County, MS. He is the son of Don & Maria Peters of Brookhaven. Daniel killed his first buck while hunting with his dad on private property in Lincoln County, MS.  Daniel’s cousin, Ethan Nations was also in the blind with them when he shot the deer.

This was the afternoon of January 30, 2009 and the last opportunity Daniel and his dad would have to hunt in the 2009 season.  Daniel’s dad had seen a buck earlier in the week on this stand and wanted Daniel to have one last opportunity to kill a buck this year.  Daniel had killed his first deer, a large doe, opening weekend of the rifle season but this would be his first buck.  The deer appeared very near the end of legal shooting time about 100 yards away.  Daniel’s dad could see the horns through his binoculars.  He helped Daniel position his rifle, a Ruger 25-06, on the shooting rest.   At the shot, the deer fell but got back up and made it into the woods.  After a short tracking job with the help of their black lab Samson, Daniel had his first Buck.  It was an 8 point buck!  Daniel and his dad were very excited.  Daniel’s dad was very thankful to have been able to experience such a special moment with his son.  It is truly one of those special memories to last a lifetime.   He would also like to thank the Hoff’s for letting them hunt on their land.
