Brandon Fortenberry of Brookhaven, MS with
Crossland Game Calls had a
recent memorable hunt in Kansas and told The Bragging Post the
following, "We had just finished our last hunt in Kansas. Cameraman Gene
Hoyt and I were going to take down a stand we had hunted earlier in the
week. I decided to take my bow and calls to try one last time before we
returned to Brookhaven. While Gene was taking the stand off the tree, I
walked approximately 60yds down the river and tried some calling. This
buck walked out, in the river, about 100yds down from me. I continued to
call on my "Wallhanger" grunt call and "Tank" estrus bleat. With-in two
minutes he was straight across the river, on the bank. Thanks to the
Kansas wind Gene never knew any of this was going on, he was still
taking the stand down! The buck saw him and became alert. My range
finder said 51yds. I adjusted my pin, prayed my Matthews Switchback XT
and Vortex Broadhead would do the job. I released my arrow and watched
it disappear just behind his shoulder. The buck only ran about 40yds.
and fell. I ran back to the stand where Gene was and he had no idea
anything had happened! The entire hunt lasted five minutes! Calling a
deer up like this, on the ground, standing behind a cotton-wood tree was
truly amazing for me. It was a hunt the Crossland staff will never
forget. I thank God for the opportunity, and memories he gave me on
November 10, 2008 @ 10:30am in Kansas!"
