Possible new Louisiana State Non-Typical Record buck was taken on October 2, 2007, by Billy Husted in Tennas Parrish on private property near Somerset.

Billy had not bow hunted for around 30 years and was struck with the desire to start again and bought a new bow this year.  This was his 2nd outing out.  He had some pictures of other deer, but had no idea there was anything like this trophy in the area.

He saw the buck approaching him 1st with binoculars as he had observed other deer in the area that started acting peculiar and was looking for the cause.  After spotting the buck, he knew it was a really good one, but Billy was so rattled he could focus only on the shot and could not look at the antlers again.  When the buck got within 35 yards, he took the shot.  Billy later found his arrow and blood, but it was then dark, so he decided to let him lay until daybreak.  After not sleeping all night, he and his wife, Vicki, began their search.  After crossing over the blood trail and going the wrong way for a short while, they once again found the trail, and thankfully found the buck within 30 to 40 minutes about 150 yards from the shot.

The velveted antlers have had 4 different "green" measurements so far.  The Pope & Young non-typical green score is 228 gross, 215 7/8 net.  Buck Master's green score is 244.  It is believed this buck will after official measurements replace the previous Louisiana record of 203 and may possibly be a #2 World Record for Non-Typical in Velvet.  Approximate age is 5 years.

Pictured below are several more pictures of Billy and his trophy.  Be sure to check back on the Bragging Post for additional updates.

CONGRATULATIONS BILLY HUSTED!!!!!
