12 Point buck harvested with bow on 11/10/05 in
Simpson County, Ms by Joe Rankin of Magee, MS

Rough score 157.4", unicorn antler not included.  Estimated live weight 200+ lbs.

Mr. Rankin son, Randy tells the story, "This is an awesome deer for our area. We are proud of our Dad for harvesting this 5 1/2 year old buck at the age of 71 and, going back hunting after breaking both  heels in a fall from a tree stand ladder two years ago. Also for refusing to shot a crossbow. He says as long as he can pull his bow, he will use it.

Dad shot this deer with his bow on 11/10/05. The light was fastly falling when a deer came into the food plot. He acted nervous, constantly looking back to where he came from, when a second deer entered the food plot. It then began to touch antlers with the other deer. Not being able to see his sight pin, he shot by feel, aligning his peep on the biggest buck standing only 15 yards away, fully trusting his hours of target practice, he released the arrow on its mystical flight and the sound of a solid hit echoed in Dad's ears. In the failing light he could not find the arrow or blood. He came back the following morning. Going to where he last saw the deer jump a fence, he followed the trail, immediately finding his arrow covered with blood; and 60 yards later, the remains of the buck. It is amazing how the coyotes, overnight, picked his carcass clean, leaving only his cape, antlers and skeleton."
